Bürer reports to the Digitalswitzerland board, which is chaired by Christian Wenger.

The 38-year-old studied physics at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). From 2011 to 2013, he was Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer at Deindeal.ch. He then became co-founder and Chairman at Movu.ch. In January 2014, he took over as Managing Director of Joiz Switzerland. Since the beginning of 2016, he has been Vice President of the Swiss Startup Association.

Nicolas Bürer replaces Stephan Küster at Digitalswitzerland. Stephan Küster has surprisingly had to return to his home country in the UK for personal reasons. He will remain with the initiative as a consultant until the end of the year. Küster has done valuable groundwork, says Marc Walder, president of the steering committee and initiator of Digitalswitzerland, in a statement.

Walder is satisfied with the choice of Küster's successor: "I am pleased that with Nicolas Bürer we have been able to win a widely recognized personality as managing director for the further development of digitalswitzerland. The focus is now on establishing digitalswitzerland as the most relevant, national initiative for Switzerland as a digital location."
