Greetings from the Home Office - Episode 22: Samuel Textor, Friendly Greetings
Friendly "Greetings from the home office", episode 22: Samuel Textor has deliberately decided against a solution within his own four walls. Out of self-protection.
Samuel Textor is founder and creative director at Freundliche Grüsse. His background is passion for film, text and for ideas that emerge from digital chaos.
Werbewoche.ch: How long have you been in a home office?
Samuel Textor: For three weeks, however, the office is my home. I have rented a single office around the corner that is suitable for a pandemic.
Is your entire agency/company located in a home office?
Yes, except me.
Did you face any technical issues while setting up your workstation?
No.
Where have you set up?
Office.
What all do you need to be able to do your job?
Everything that can fit into a few boxes of French fries. These are the boxes we've been storing everything in since the agency was founded six years ago. The boxes are very robust and have an ideal size: you can store laptops, contracts, a crate of beer, or even fries - or cooking fat - in them. That is why the fries are our heraldic animal. It is a pity that the boxes are no longer produced. Dear company "Florin": Please start the machines again and make boxes!
Is it difficult to separate yourself enough when the children are at home?
Yes, two boys aged 2 and 6. It's completely impossible to work at home. But that's not because of the kids, it's because of me - I'd rather play around than work.
Do you have home office experience or is this a first?
I had already had very bad experiences in the past.
Based on previous experience: Which processes are difficult compared to the normal agency/professional routine?
In my opinion, all processes.
Which jobs go smoothly?
I can't answer that, I don't have enough experience with home offices.
What do they do to keep the ceiling from falling on your head?
I go out, or just: work in the office.
What do you miss most about the physical day-to-day life at the agency?
Many things I miss very much, for example the faces, and many things I do not miss, I am a peace loving person.
Are you confident that your agency will come through the crisis unscathed?
Yes and no. I think we are very well positioned for difficult times and the challenges of the current situation, but how the economy will develop, we don't know.
As we all know, everything has its positive sides. What is it in your current home office situation?
On the bright side, I have the privilege of not having to do a home office.
When and why did you last laugh in connection with the home office?
Just now, when I wrote this answer.
What would you like to give your colleagues in the industry to take with them through the crisis?
I don't know any more than anyone else.
The coronavirus has society firmly in its grip. Those who can stay at home, stay at home. The advertising, communications and marketing industry is also shifting operations to the home office on a large scale. With the series "Greetings from the home office," Werbewoche.ch sheds light on everyday working life within the four walls of one's home.
