Double radio and television fee - Serafe error

Twice asked to pay for radio and television fees - this happened to 224,000 households in Switzerland. The alleged rip-off turned out to be a "production error in the billing process" at the Swiss Survey Office for Radio and Television Fees (Serafe).

Immediately after the incident became known, the Federal Office of Communications, as the supervisory body, was informed of the incident by Serafe, according to a statement from the radio and television levy office on Monday.

The investigations revealed that 224,000 invoices had been printed a second time in one of the two printing service centers, packaged and handed over to the post office for dispatch. As these were invoices with correct data, the open amounts were correctly recorded in the systems of the collection agency and were only owed once, the report continues.

Accordingly, the affected customers can dispose of the duplicate bill received. Invoice amounts paid twice will be refunded to the customers of the collection agency. (SDA)
