Commission demands repayment of VAT to companies

Households are to receive a flat-rate reimbursement of CHF 50 for the VAT on radio and television reception fees, which the federal government had levied without a legal basis. The Council of States committee agrees with this. However, it is also calling for a regulation for companies.

The Committee for Transport and Telecommunications of the Council of States (KVF) has unanimously approved the Federal Council's proposal for the refund of VAT. It sees its proposal as a pragmatic solution, as the parliamentary services announced on Tuesday.

However, the KFV has instructed the administration to submit proposals for a legal regulation for companies by the next meeting.

The Federal Council's proposal does not provide for any legal regulation for companies. It argued that most companies would have been able to deduct input tax and would not have suffered any economic losses as a result (Werbewoche.ch reported). The others could register their claim directly with the Federal Office of Communications. (SDA)
