The SP takes the Federal Council to task over the SDA

The SDA, which is facing a mass layoff, is getting backing from the SP. National Councilor Matthias Aebischer is calling for the state to do more for the news agency.

The SDA should be trimmed to a profit object, criticizes Aebischer to the SonntagsBlick. The consequences of this are "scandalous", as the announced layoffs show.

Since the SDA's customers, the publishers, would push down prices, the state would have to get more involved, Aebischer demands. The Federal Council must make it clear to what extent it will become involved in the SDA, he said. In a motion, the SP National Councilor calls on the national government to make plans "to guarantee the agency's high-quality work.

The Federal Council should also clarify whether the federal government would participate in a new, non-profit SDA. Aebischer is convinced that thanks to the language law, a stronger commitment would be possible - provided that the SDA abandons its goal of "making its shareholders happy with a dividend. (hae)
