VSM rejects announced approval of targeted advertising

The Association of Swiss Media (VSM) is clearly opposed to the intended authorization of target group-oriented advertising at SRG. The association is convinced that further commercialization would clearly be to the detriment of private broadcasters. Moreover, the timing is "disconcerting.

It is considered an "affront" that "the Uvek wants to allow the fee-financed SRG to continue commercialization with digital target group-oriented advertising at high speed with an amendment to the RTVV," it says in a statement that the VSM issued on the occasion of the on Monday announced RTVV revision. "This would further legitimize the politically and legally controversial advertising marketing platform Admeira and undermine the constitutional requirement that SRG show consideration for private media," criticized the publishers' association.

The VSM therefore expects the Federal Council to take these concerns into account when awarding the new SRG license and to adapt the draft ordinance accordingly. The decision, which is significant in terms of state and media policy, as to whether the SRG will be allowed to offer target group-oriented advertising at the expense of the private media in the future, must be made by parliament, it is demanded.

The VSM also finds the timing of the proposal "strange" and "incomprehensible". On the one hand, an appeal by the VSM in the Admeira case is still pending before the Federal Court. On the other hand, the Media Act is in preparation, which should also regulate the commercial interests of the SRG.

The VSM also criticized the lack of tact with regard to the vote on the No Billag initiative. The publishers are convinced that this "rush to judgment" will further fuel the discussion about the commercial expansion of SRG at the expense of private broadcasters. (hae/pd)
