Corona brings web offers historic traffic in March

As part of NET-Metrix-Audit, historical traffic values will be observed in March 2020: Never before have more visits or unique clients been registered. Depending on the offer, traffic has doubled or even tripled compared to the previous month.

Corona crisis leads to massive traffic increases - but also declines. The current increase in the need for information is reflected in the traffic figures: While the total number of visits in February 2020 was around 630 million, the figure for March 2020 has risen to over 980 million (+56 percent).

In addition, historical highs are registered in NET-Metrix-Audit: For NZZ.ch around 8.8 million unique clients are reported, for 20min.ch - D-CH around 184 million visits - never before have higher values been determined in NET-Metrix-Audit for individual offers, as it says in a statement on Thursday.

On the other hand, the restrictions imposed by the Corona crisis have also led to corresponding declines in traffic for some websites. The majority of the affected sites are in the leisure and event sector.

Furthermore, the network figures suggest that Internet users will visit different websites much more frequently than before due to the increased need for information. In other words, usage in March 2020 will not only be higher, but also "broader.

Around four out of five web visits are made via Android and iOS

A look at the OS statistics (operating systems) 2020 shows further, albeit not dramatic, growth in visits via smartphones and tablets: In March 2020, around 78 percent of web visits will be made on devices with Android or iOS.
