Every day 129 minutes in front of the TV

Switzerland continues to watch a lot of TV, as shown by the latest half-year figures from the independent research institute Mediapulse. German-speaking Swiss spend an average of 129 minutes a day watching TV, 10 percent of which is time-shifted.

Television remains one of the most popular leisure activities for the Swiss and is even becoming more popular again, as usage data from the independent research institute Mediapulse show. The medium's reach is high: Every day, an average of 66.0 percent in German-speaking Switzerland consume TV programs. Daily usage time is just over two hours, at 129.4 minutes.

In the other parts of the country, especially in Svizzera italiana, reach and viewing time are even higher than in German-speaking Switzerland (67.3 percent and 147.3 minutes in Suisse romande, 76.2 percent and 182.4 minutes in Svizzera italiana). In the last four semesters, TV reach increased in all three parts of the country, while viewing time remained stable or also increased slightly.

Once again, time-shifted viewing has made a big leap, and its share is growing steadily. In the first half of 2015, more than 10 percent of TV minutes in Switzerland were consumed time-shifted for the first time. Time-shifted television is particularly popular in Suisse romande, where a figure of 16.8 percent has already been reached among 15- to 29-year-olds. A rapid development can be seen in Ticino, where time-shifted use has risen from 5.6 percent to 10 percent within one year.
