Franz Bürgi, CIO of the TX Group, moves to Tamedia

Franz Bürgi, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of TX Group, is moving to Tamedia. As of November 1, 2022, Bürgi will become CIO of the subgroup and also a member of the Executive Board.

The Paid Media Technology (Reto Matter) and Publishing Technology Solutions (Hal Taylor) divisions report to Franz Bürgi. In his new function, Bürgi will report to Tamedia Co-Managing Director Andreas Schaffner.

Also as of November 1, Simon Maurer will become the new CIO of TX Group, responsible for the newly created "Group IT & Shared Services" division. In this area, the Cloud ERP, Business Analytics, Corporate Procurement and Group Operations teams, which he currently heads, will be merged with the IT teams remaining at Group level and the Group's nearshoring activities at TX Services (Belgrade) under one management. Simon Maurer continues to report to Group COO Sandro Macciacchini.

The organizational adjustment is a consistent continuation of the Group's strategy of granting the companies more autonomy while maintaining Group-wide synergies. By decentralizing publishing technology, Tamedia is growing as a subgroup and repositioning itself in the technology area for the challenges ahead. At the Group level, the consolidation of various teams into a new division ensures continuity and creates the basis for further targeted development.

Franz Bürgi has been CIO of TX Group since June 1, 2017, and in this role has made a significant contribution to the digital transformation of the Group. Together with his teams, he drove forward the consistent cloud strategy of the TX Group and was jointly responsible for the development of the leading publishing platforms at Tamedia and 20 Minuten.

Simon Maurer becomes new CIO of TX Group

Simon Maurer joined TX Group on January 1, 2016 and since then has contributed substantially to the transformation and digitalization of Services with his teams. Among other things, he was responsible for the integration of acquired companies into Services, the realignment of Corporate Services including the introduction of Workday and a comprehensive digitization of all processes, as well as the development and management of the Group's nearshoring activities at TX Services in Belgrade.

Andreas Schaffner, Co-Managing Director Tamedia: "As CIO at TX Group, Franz Bürgi played a key role in driving forward the development of the IT infrastructure. In view of the massive changes resulting from the digital transformation, he is the right man to adapt the infrastructure at Tamedia to the future challenges. I look forward to working with him."

Sandro Macciacchini, COO TX Group and member of the Group Management: "Of course I regret the departure of Franz Bürgi, who has done an outstanding job of developing our IT over the past few years. At the same time, I am convinced that the new role is perfectly suited to him and that he can take Tamedia forward. In Simon Maurer, we have the ideal successor as Group CIO and Head of the newly created "Group IT & Shared Services" division. He is an experienced transformation leader and knows the Group and the technology and service areas very well and will ensure the continuity and further development of the new division."
