New "Sports Media Group": Ringier expands

The media company Ringier wants to bundle its international competencies in sports reporting - and is founding the "Sports Media Group" based in Zofingen (AG) for this purpose.

Sports Media GroupSports has always been a mainstay of Ringier's publishing business, with a strong journalistic focus and proven sports expertise in various markets, according to a statement from the group. This can be seen, for example, with Blick in Switzerland, Sportal Media Group and Digital Ventures OOD in Bulgaria, Gazeta Sporturilor in Romania, Sport.sk in Slovakia, Onet and Przeglad Sportowy in Poland, Blikk in Hungary, Blic Sport in Serbia and Pulse in Africa.

Ringier pursues "clear expansion strategy

With the acquisition of the Sportal Media Group in 2021, an important basis had been created for further investments and the further development of sports media worldwide. With the help of the leading Bulgarian Sportal Media Group - to which Sportal.bg, the country's most successful sports website, as well as Digital Ventures OOD, those with Sportal365, "a globally unique content management system for sports news" - Ringier can now pursue a clear expansion strategy.

For the operational implementation of its sports media strategy, an independent company based in Zofingen (AG), the Ringier Sports Media Group founded.

At the time of its foundation, there are under the umbrella of the Ringier Sports Media Group the sports brands of the Sportal Media Group as well as from Digital Ventures OOD in Bulgaria and in addition Gazeta Sporturilor in Romania and Sportal.rs in Serbia. The portfolio of the Ringier Sports Media Group is expected to grow rapidly in the coming months through mergers and acquisitions and new product launches.

Stilian Shishkov takes on global responsibility

Stilian Shishkov, founder and CEO of the Sportal Media Group in Bulgaria, will be responsible for the strategic development of Ringier's sports media worldwide.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier Sports Media Group will be Robin Lingg. Members of the Board of Directors are Marc Walder (CEO Ringier AG), Ladina Heimgartner (Head Global Media Ringier AG and CEO Blick Group), Annabella Bassler (CFO Ringier AG) and Alexander Theobald (CEO Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland and COO Ringier Switzerland) as delegate.
