City portal Tsüri.ch closes 2021 with black zero

The independent Zurich-based online platform is on course for success. The financing concept, which is based on the three pillars of sponsorship, advertising and community/donations, has generated revenues of around CHF 650,00 in 2021.

"It was a very successful year for Tsüri.ch, both in terms of personnel and business," says Editor-in-Chief Simon Jacoby about 2021. In recent months, Emilio Masullo and Ladina Cavelti joined the team as project managers. Both were previously employed as interns at Tsüri and extended their contracts. Steffen Kolberg and Isabel Brun strengthened the editorial team by 50 percent each. William Stern and Salome Müller started in September 2021 with the morning newsletter "Züri Briefing".

Tsüri's financing model is based on the three pillars of sponsorship, advertising and community/donations. The editors report that this has proved particularly successful in the past two Corona years. "Almost 1,500 members support Tsüri.ch and our events are met with great interest - many people can no longer imagine Zurich without our city magazine," says Seraina Manser, who is responsible for the community. In 2021, Tsüri had earned around 650,000 francs, breaking even for the first time. "We don't belong to any publishing house and generate all our income ourselves," the editorial team proudly announces.

Thanks to the successful business year, all employees were paid a 13th month's salary for the first time, and wages were also increased slightly. In 2022, the editorial team is to be further strengthened and its relevance increased - and the aim is to repeat last year's good business result.
