A magazine for the Ringier initiative EqualVoice

Ringier's EqualVoice initiative advocates more visibility for women in the media. Now, for the first time, an 88-page magazine on the subject is being published, produced by the Ringier Brand Studio.

82 percent of all articles worldwide are about men. In Switzerland, things are not significantly better: Only one in four articles features a woman as the protagonist. To change this disparity, Ringier launched the EqualVoice initiative in November 2019 with the aim of strengthening the visibility of women in the media (Werbewoche.ch reported). The magazine for the initiative is now being published with various reports on the topic of gender equality.

The initiative is a project close to the heart of Annabella Bassler, CFO of Ringier. "The issue of equal opportunities has been on my mind since I was a child in Brazil," says Bassler. "Despite the covid pandemic, we have achieved a lot in the last two years and can announce great progress. But it's a marathon, not a sprint: there is still work to be done to achieve equal opportunities. That's what we want to highlight with this EqualVoice magazine."

Information about the initiative

The magazine explains how the initiative works, namely by means of the "EqualVoice-Factor", which measures the mentions of women and men in all articles. The issue also looks at why it took so long in Switzerland for women to be given the right to vote and what we can do to combat unconscious prejudices. And where does Switzerland stand on the subject of gender roles? A study specially commissioned by Sotomo aims to shed light on this.

The magazine appears on Thursday as an insert in the Handelszeitung, on Friday in the Swiss Illustrated and on Sunday in the SonntagsBlick. The aim is to reach around one million readers. It was designed and produced by Ringier Brand Studio and written by editors from Ringier and Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland.
