20 Minutes turns 15 and celebrates the community

20 Minutes celebrates its 15th anniversary with special pages in the March 8, 2021 issue, launches on Tiktok and seeks new talent on the web with Webstar. With the #FierDeToi project, the editorial team wants to give local heroines a voice.

Fifteen years ago Monday, the first issue of the commuter newspaper 20 Minutes, with a circulation of 109,000 copies, was in the boxes in Geneva, Lausanne and many other cities in French-speaking Switzerland. The fledgling medium has moved with the times, and its editorial focus has shifted first from print to online, then to mobile, and is changing to video-first with the publishing video offensive announced in January, which will create 20 additional jobs in video, sports and social media.

Throughout the year, the various channels and the company's own channel 20minutes.ch/15ans editorial contributions on the anniversary will appear again and again, marked with a special anniversary logo. The whole thing is accompanied by a cross-media campaign, projects and competitions.

"Webstar" seeks talent

From March 2021, 20 Minutes will support new digital talents with the Webstars campaign. A jury will evaluate the submitted ideas from the fields of music, film, fashion, lifestyle or cooking and select five talents. The five finalists will benefit from professional coaching. The final projects will be evaluated by the jury and the 20 Minutes community. The winner will receive prize money and an offer to work with 20 Minutes on a regular basis.

#FierDeToi is looking for good stories

In the #FierDeToi campaign, starting in April, the public will be invited to send in stories from people in their personal environment that they are proud of. The most original submissions will be presented to the public and the winners will be determined by audience voting.

A major anniversary and award celebration, which will take place physically or digitally depending on the situation, is planned for the end of 2021.
