Declining advertising: Freiburg News cuts 5.5 jobs
Freiburg's German-language daily newspaper Freiburger Nachrichten FN is cutting 5.5 of its 47.1 full-time positions. The reason is a 20 percent drop in advertising revenues since the start of the Corona pandemic.
According to a statement by the director and editor-in-chief in Wednesday's edition of the FN 1.5 jobs in administration and prepress will have to be eliminated through layoffs. The remaining positions will be eliminated through natural attrition, retirement or early retirement.
In the editorial department, a vacant position will not be filled.
Thanks to short-time work, a great effort and support measures from the federal government and the canton, the company was able to come through the first Corona year unscathed, the report continues. However, the long-term prospects for the advertising market are gloomy and a recovery is not foreseeable in the short term.
The FN are the only German-language daily newspaper in the bilingual canton of Fribourg and an independent company. It also includes the Murtenbieter and the Kerzers scoreboard. (SDA)
