SRG launches new streaming platform "Play Suisse" in November

Starting in November, SRG is relaunching its streaming services with the "Play Suisse" platform. The service will offer content in the original language from all language regions with subtitles in German, French and Italian.

The new national streaming platform offers a curated selection of in-house and co-productions such as films, series, documentaries, reports and archive gems, SRG announced on Friday. Thanks to the optional subtitles, the content is accessible to users across language borders, with selected titles also available in Romansh.

At the end of July, the platform will initially be opened for internal use in order to obtain feedback from a larger circle of employees. In October, the pre-launch will take place with around 5,000 external users. The official launch will then take place in November.

Free space for cooperations

The name chosen leaves room for cooperation with external partners, the statement continues. For example, the media group CH Media is planning its own streaming services.

The offers of CH Media's stations, including 3+, for example, and other TV content are to be made available on a single platform. The media company is also in talks with SRG, among others, to limit costs and offer more content.

The use of streaming services has increased markedly in Switzerland, and not just since the Corona crisis. Swiss telecommunications providers are increasingly integrating the US streaming service Netflix as well as Sky, YouTube and the sports streaming platform Dazn. (SDA)
