With the integration of the publishing house and Corporate Services of the Basler Zeitung (BaZ) into the Tamedia Group's newspaper network would create synergies, according to a statement issued by Tamedia on Monday (Advertising week reported). Specifically affected by the cutbacks are Publishing, Corporate Services and Editorial Services, according to a Tamedia spokesperson. Among the permanently employed journalists in the editorial department of the BaZ there will be no layoffs, according to the spokesman. How many full-time positions the BaZ at the moment, he did not want to say. Tamedia does not disclose figures for individual titles.

Markus Somm's successor not yet determined

It is not yet known who will lead BaZ in the future. Markus Somm will step down as editor-in-chief at the end of 2018. Tamedia will provide information about his successor in due course. The takeover by Tamedia will also change the appearance of BaZ. According to the Tamedia spokesperson, the new editor-in-chief will be involved in the planned layout adjustments. The same applies to strategies to strengthen the editorial location in Basel in the future - according to the press release, Tamedia wants to examine such strategies and, if necessary, develop them with the new editor-in-chief.
