Publishers hope for understanding successor after Leuthard resignation

As media minister, Doris Leuthard did make an effort to understand Switzerland's publishers, said Andreas Häuptli, managing director of the Swiss Media Association (VSM). "But it was often not what we imagined."

The law on electronic media, which the VSM is currently dealing with, came from Federal Councillor Leuthard, Häuptli said on Thursday in response to a question from the Keystone-SDA agency. "We are not very happy with it." At the VSM, he said, they are now eager to see who will take over the media dossier as Leuthard's successor. "There is a certain urgency, because the media is not doing well," Häuptli said. The hope is for a personality with a deeper understanding of the media world - "and also an interest." For its part, SRG, which survived the no-billag vote during Media Minister Doris Leuthard's tenure, declined to comment Thursday on the latter's resignation. (SDA)
