On June 7, Tamedia had announced the discontinuation of the print edition of Le Matin was announced. According to the media group, this will lead to 36 layoffs, 22 of them in the editorial department, and four reductions in staff. The medium will only exist online and will be further developed with a 15-person editorial team.

During the consultation phase, the employees had submitted three alternative projects to the Tamedia management in order to reduce the impact on jobs (Werbewoche.ch reported). All these proposals were rejected by Tamedia. An analysis of the variants outlined showed that all of them had already been considered and rejected in previous years, the statement said.

A sale of Le Matin is not up for discussion at Tamedia. Le Matin is to be continued as a purely digital media brand with its own editorial team, thus preserving its unique positioning in French-speaking Switzerland, the statement added. Tamedia called on the employee representatives and the Impressum trade union to begin negotiating a social plan within the framework of the current collective labor agreement as of Thursday.
