Roman Abramovich loses in court against Tamedia

Roman Abramovich has been unsuccessful at the Zurich Commercial Court. The Russian oligarch had demanded that the SonntagsZeitung and other Tamedia titles not be allowed to publish four statements about him.

As a result, the owner of Chelsea F.C. must pay the court costs of 15,000 francs and compensate Tamedia for the trouble with 6000 francs. This is reported by the SonntagsZeitung in its current issue.

The background: Abramovich wanted to move to Verbier, applied for a residence permit in Valais in the summer of 2016 and withdrew it about a year later. The SonntagsZeitung picked up the story and wanted to report on the back and forth in February. The oligarch, in turn, wanted to prevent this and obtained a temporary ban. This was lifted by the Commercial Court after review at the end of April 2018.

However, since Abramovich has appealed the ruling, the SonntagsZeitung is not allowed to report on the background. (hae)
