AZ Medien establishes a journalistic advisory board for the Basel papers

Peter Wanner's AZ Medien Group has set up a journalistic advisory board for its two Basel sister papers, BZ Basel and BZ Basellandschaftliche Zeitung. In addition to Wanner himself, four personalities from politics and business northwest of the Jura sit on the board.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the advisory board's task is "to provide journalistic support to the editorial staff of the two newspapers, to support their journalistic quality in print and online and to monitor the competition between the media in the region". In the Basel region, the BZ-sheets primarily with the Basel Newspaper.

The BZ has its own editor-in-chief, David Sieber, for the regional section with the two titles; the AZ mantle has been the responsibility of AZ Northwestern Switzerlandeditor-in-chief Patrik Müller. The AZ Group also already has its own ombudsman in the form of former Basel councillor René Rhinow (FDP).

Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter, CVP National Councillor from Basel, President of the Basel Chamber of Commerce, sits on the advisory board. The retired head of Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank, Beat Oberlin, is also a member; the Vice President of the University Council of the University of Basel is being discussed as its future President.

The BZ-The new advisory board is chaired by Thomas Kessler, who had to leave his position as Basel's urban developer a year ago. He had previously made a name for himself nationwide as the city canton's drugs delegate and integration officer. Politically, Kessler, a former Green cantonal councillor in Zurich, has no clear position today.

The Left represents the BZThe former President of the Basel-Stadt Grand Council, Dominique König-Lüdin (SP), is now a member of the advisory board. The music teacher is the daughter of the former publisher of the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung - The Lüdin family sold the paper to Wanner in 2007, whose AZ had been supplying the BZ with the cover section since 2006.
