These are the most beautiful Swiss books

The Federal Office of Culture has chosen 24 books published in this country last year as the most beautiful in Switzerland. Now the works are going on an exhibition tour around the world.

Already in the first half of the year, the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) launched "The Most Beautiful Swiss Books Among them are three books that won a bronze medal in the international "Most Beautiful Books from Around the World" competition.

Now they can be admired in exhibitions in Switzerland. The kick-off was the vernissage on 31 August at the Helmhaus Zurich. After the short exhibition of four days, the exhibition now goes on a journey through Switzerland and abroad.

Every year, the FOC organises the competition "The Most Beautiful Swiss Books". It rewards excellence in book design and production, focusing in particular on works that express contemporary trends. The 24 most beautiful books of 2016 were awarded by the BAK on the recommendation of the five-member jury chaired by Gilles Gavillet.

Jan Tschichold Prize for candy

The Jan Tschichold Prize has been awarded by the BAK since 1997 to a personality, a team or an institution for outstanding achievements in book design. The jury awards this prize independently of the competition "The Most Beautiful Swiss Books". This year the Jan Tschichold Prize, worth CHF 15,000, goes to Team Bonbon, Valeria Bonin (*1978) and Diego Bontognali (*1977). Their books stem from a culture of warm-heartedness, have a lyrical aspect and are also always a biting conceptual quest, said Thomas Kramer, client of Bonbon and publishing director of Scheidegger & Spiess /Park Books, in his laudatory speech for the two prize winners.
