SRF children's program "MySchool" partly misleading

The SRG ombudsman has partially upheld the complaint about a feature on the SRF children's program "MySchool" on the subject of energy autonomy. The film should have mentioned the disadvantages of renewable energies in at least one sentence.

The association "Freie Landschaft Schweiz", which opposes the construction of industrial wind turbines, had objected to the report "Ein Dorf wagt den Alleingang - Der Weg zur Energieautonomie" (A village dares to go it alone - the way to energy autonomy) in the SRF children's program "MySchool" on June 4.

According to the complaint, the report conveyed a "one-sided picture of the energy turnaround, focused only on the advantages of new renewable energies, and used several terms incorrectly or mixed up contexts."

Ombudsman Roger Blum now upheld the complainant's claim on two out of six points: the editorial team had made a mistake by describing the German village of Feldheim as "energy self-sufficient and thus independent of the federal power grid. This was because it had implicitly equated the terms energy and electricity. This was inaccurate.

Blum was far more critical of the fact that the report made no mention of the fact that the new renewable energies were also associated with disadvantages. "To pretend that they only bring advantages is tantamount to misleading the public," wrote the ombudsman in his final report, which is available to the SDA news agency. (SDA)
