SDA launches Italian-language regional service in Chur

SDA has strengthened its presence in Graubünden and launched an Italian-language regional service in Chur. It is aimed at the media of Italian-speaking Grisons and is made available to them free of charge.

405-1

The new service is intended to supplement reporting on the region, writes the SDA in its newsletter on Wednesday. The regional service is made possible with language promotion funds from the federal government and the canton of Graubünden. It stems from a parliamentary mandate that the canton strengthen social cohesion by promoting information between language communities. This mandate is fulfilled with the new service.

First Italian-language regional service

With its basic services in German, French and Italian, SDA has also always wanted to facilitate exchange between the language regions. In addition, it reports in the regional services, but also from the regions for the respective regions. Until now, it has only done this in German and French. With the service for Southern Grisons, the first Italian-language regional service is thus launched at the same time.

Positive feedback

The "servizio valli italiane" (SVI) is produced in the regional editorial office of the SDA in Chur, which has thus become bilingual. An Italian-speaking journalist started production after Easter. The service includes news from the fields of politics, business, society and culture. Initial feedback has been positive.

Italian-speaking Grisons makes up about 15 percent of the area of the canton of Grisons and is made up of the four valleys of Puschlav, Bergell, Misox and Calanca. According to the website of "Pro Grigioni italiano", about 19,000 Italian speakers live in Graubünden. This corresponds to one tenth of the entire population of the canton.
