Basler Zeitung outsources layout and correction to Somedia

From mid-year, the Basler Zeitung and its tabloid offshoot BaZ-Kompakt will be mostly laid out and corrected in Chur. It is not yet known how many jobs this outsourcing to the Somedia publishing house will cost in Basel.

Unbenannt-1

In a statement from the publisher Basler Zeitung Medien, the move is justified by "BaZ's concentration on its core publishing business". The layout and proofreading departments are to remain in Basel, but will be reduced by "several employees.

"With its modern media house in Chur, Somedia has the necessary technical capacities and the corresponding know-how," said Rolf Bollmann, CEO of Basler Zeitung Medien, in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the spokeswoman, it is "still too early" to say how many BaZ prepress employees in the editorial and advertising departments will be affected by this outsourcing up the Rhine; it is currently only "an editorial project". It is conceivable that those affected in Basel will be offered replacement jobs in Chur. (SDA/pd)
