RSI is preparing a completely new offer

The second RSI TV channel LA 2 is to give way in the long term to a new web offering that can be used on mobile, online and via smart TV.

At the request of the SRG SSR Executive Board, which regularly reviews the offering, the Board of Directors decided to implement the "Digital Audience Proximity" project in Italian-speaking Switzerland.

RSI will launch the completely new offering "Web LA 2" at the beginning of the next decade: mobile, online and in interactive smart TV (the digital successor to analog teletext). "Web LA 2" is intended to replace the RSI LA 2 TV channel and offer the audience more than it does today.

RSI has far fewer resources than SRF in German-speaking Switzerland and RTS in French-speaking Switzerland; thus, for RSI, operating two TV channels is demanding and a digital alternative to the second channel is promising. Due to a completely different starting point, "Digital Audience Proximity" is a project specific to Italian-speaking Switzerland and not a pioneering project for other parts of the country. SRG optimizes its offering according to the specifics of each part of the country.

If the technological and legal prerequisites are met in the course of several years of preparatory work, RSI will be able to provide a richer offering despite scarce resources: "Web LA 2" will complement the conventional TV channel RSI LA 1 well; this has been proven by a feasibility study. In addition, "Web LA 2" will make it easier to provide local coverage, for example of sports events. RSI Director Maurizio Canetta, in a statement: "This project points to the digital future. RSI is meeting the needs of the audience in Italian-speaking Switzerland. And moves closer to the young."
