Free surfing around the lake basin

The free wifi around Bellevue will once again be used to the benefit of a major event. The pilot project is made possible by the Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (EWZ), Goldbach Group, Cisco and iWay.

The free wifi was used for the first time in Zurich at the Züri Fäscht in July. Now it will continue on August 13 at the Zurich Street Parade. The free wifi extends from Zurich's Sechseläutenplatz to Bellevue and Bürkliplatz. As soon as a visitor dials into the Wlan network (EWZ-Free-WiFi), he receives his registration data via SMS. He is then forwarded to a landing page with suitable advertising content. There is a partnership with the Internet TV provider Wilmaa, which places thematically appropriate content on the landing page. Particularly during the live broadcast of the Street Parade, users are given the opportunity to follow the livestream or find out about the latest news.

Further opportunities are being exploited to increase reach. A new type of advertising medium marketed by Goldbach enables customers to place location-based advertising. Even before the Street Parade begins, Watson is promoting the free WiFi network to readers via the AZ media channels. ewz also informs its customers via its own website Zuerinet.ch.

The pilot project will initially continue until the end of the year. In addition to the Street Parade, the Zurich Christmas market will also be used as an occasion to make profitable use of the free wifi. At the end of the year, a detailed analysis will be carried out to show the benefits and potential of wifi.
