According to the Sonntagszeitung, Dorer signed the contract "after a long back and forth" and thus outdid Philipp Pfister. Pfister took over the management of the newspaper in May after the Departure of Christine Maier ad interim. Since then, he has been waiting to be appointed official boss, according to the "Politohr" column. Dorer's appointment is also reported by the NZZ am Sonntag.

Dorer is a graduate of the Ringier School of Journalism, worked for Blick in the business department from 2001 and then for Sonntagsblick as a correspondent for the Federal Parliament. In 2007, he became deputy editor-in-chief of Sonntagsblick (Werbewoche.ch reported), before being appointed editor-in-chief of the Aargauer Zeitung in 2009 (Werbewoche.ch reported). (hae)
