Pascal Hollenstein becomes Head of Journalism at NZZ Regional Media

Pascal Hollenstein, currently Deputy Editor-in-Chief of NZZ am Sonntag, is to take over the newly created position of Head of Journalism for the regional media of the NZZ Media Group.

At the end of 2014, the NZZ Media Group merged Tagblatt Medien and LZ Medien under uniform management in the Regional Media Division. The aim of the joint organization is to cooperate more in the supra-regional, reader market processing and administrative areas, and to strengthen the independent nature of local and regional reporting. Against this backdrop, Pascal Hollenstein, former domestic editor and deputy editor-in-chief of the NZZ am Sonntag, is to take up his new position as head of journalism for the NZZ regional media this spring. The final decision will be made after consultation with the editorial teams in St. Gallen and Lucerne.

In an initial phase, Pascal Hollenstein will focus on managing the national departments and the cooperation projects between the editorial teams in central and eastern Switzerland. These include the introduction of the uniform Woodwing editorial system and the joint layout, each with a different brand identity. The editors-in-chief of the "St. Galler Tagblatt" and the "Neue Luzerner Zeitung" will focus on managing the regional departments and report to the Head of Journalism. The regional newspapers "Thurgauer Zeitung" and "Zuger Zeitung" are given more weight. In the new journalistic management structure, their editors-in-chief David Angst and Harry Ziegler report directly to the Head of Journalism.

Hollenstein was born in 1971 and grew up in Thurgau. He studied history, political science, economic and social history at the University of Zurich. He began his journalistic career as an editor at Radio Thurgau and the Thurgauer Zeitung, later taking on various engagements in corporate publishing and as a historian at an insurance company before moving to the Sonntagszeitung as business editor. In 2002, he was part of the founding team of NZZ am Sonntag, where he was promoted to Head of Department Switzerland and Deputy Editor-in-Chief in 2011.
