Energy celebrates, Radio 24 takes it easy

Energy Zürich spoke of a "historic change at the top of Swiss private radio" on Tuesday after announcing its listener figures for the second half of 2015. Radio 24, meanwhile, is focusing on dominating Zurich.

Energy Zürich knocks Radio 24 off its throne and is now the largest Swiss private radio station (Werbewoche.ch reported). According to the listener figures for the second half of 2015, which were published on Tuesday by Mediapulse, Energy Zurich reaches 285'000 listeners daily. "This is a great day for us and a historic day for the Swiss private radio industry. We set out 13 years ago with Energy Zürich and today we have reached the summit. It has not been an easy road and I would like to thank our listeners, the team, our partners and customers and everyone who has supported us along the way. We are happy and proud," Energy CEO Dani Büchi said in a statement.

Radio 24, Switzerland's oldest private radio station, which has been toppled from its national throne, takes the latest development in listener figures calmly in a statement - the relinquishment of the German-speaking Swiss leadership was to be expected. The reason for this is the station's clear focus on Zurich, which remains the focus of its programming strategy. The station also reiterates that the gap to Energy is "not statistically significant," according to Mediapulse. Radio 24 continues to defend its position as No. 1 in the Zurich area, with 210'300 listeners who receive Radio 24 for around 53 minutes on weekdays. With a 7.9 percent market share, Radio 24 is the market leader in the license area. (hae)
