Annabelle expands digitally and cuts expenses

Annabelle magazine is adapting to the changing usage habits of its readers and is focusing even more on digital content. From 2016, Annabelle will be published every three weeks with 18 printed issues per year instead of the previous 22.

At the same time, the digital offering for the 222,000 female readers is being further developed. More content and additional services are available on Annabelle.ch. In addition, all subscribers will receive free access to a new e-paper and will be able to decide in the future whether they prefer to read Annabelle on paper or digitally.

Serge Reymond, Head of Media German-speaking Switzerland at Tamedia: "Our readership research shows that reading behavior has changed in recent years. Readers appreciate our offerings, but find less time to read. With the new rhythm and the new digital offerings, we are responding to the development of reading habits and the structural change in the advertising market." The new concept is expected to result in one layoff and two early retirements.

Silvia Binggeli, Editor-in-Chief: "The concept of Annabelle, a mixture of reportage and lifestyle, is now unique in the German-speaking world. We are proud of this, and we will continue to strongly cultivate this quality of Annabelle in the future."

Annabelle was founded in 1938 as Switzerland's first women's magazine and is published by the Tamedia media group. With a distributed circulation of 70,258 copies, Annabelle reaches an average of 222,000 readers (Mach Basic 2015-1). Silvia Binggeli has been Editor-in-Chief of Annabelle since 2013, while Walter Vontobel has been in charge of the publishing house since 2014.
