Yahoo closes search engine deal with Firefox

Yahoo will be the default search engine for the popular Firefox web browser instead of Google in the future - at least in the US. Firefox developer Mozilla and the Internet company announced a five-year strategic partnership late Wednesday.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer also stated that there is a long-term roadmap for international cooperation. How much Yahoo will pay for this integration as a standard search engine is not known.

For Mozilla, it's a drastic change: in previous years, a large part of the Firefox makers' revenue came from the cooperation with Google, which yielded several hundred million dollars.

Firefox users could continue to select Google as their preferred search engine as well, Mozilla chief Chris Beard said. (SDA)
