Schawinski's radio "105" changes logo

Radio pioneer Roger Schawinski's "105" radio station is dispensing with its previous logo, which is the subject of a legal dispute, with immediate effect. Schawinski fears that its use could cost millions in the longer term.

Last week, the Zurich youth station that radio pioneer Roger Schawinski had bought out of bankruptcy proceedings announced a name change from "105" to "Planet 105". The background was the legal dispute with the station's former co-owner, who insisted on protection of the name. Schawinski countered that while the word and picture were, the number was not.

Schawinski's Radio 1 announced on Thursday morning that the Italians had filed a lawsuit to prohibit the further use of the logo of the radio station "105" on a super-provisional basis and thus with immediate effect. On Tuesday, however, the Commercial Court rejected this request.

Nevertheless, Schawinski decided to stop using the logo. "In the longer term, we would have had to transfer millions to Milan for the logo. That didn't make sense," he is quoted as saying in the communiqué. With immediate effect, the previous "word picture mark" will no longer be used.

Instead, the station's homepage is emblazoned with a provisional logo that puts the number "105" in the center. The lettering "under construction" complements the logo. Schawinski already announced last week that it would hold an international competition for a new logo. The relaunch is scheduled for mid-August. (SDA)
