RSI: Maurizio Canetta becomes new director

The SRG SSR Board of Directors has appointed Maurizio Canetta, 57, from Ticino, as Director of Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI). The appointment was made at the suggestion of the SRG Cooperative of Italian-speaking Switzerland.

Canetta has worked for RSI for more than 30 years, holding a wide range of management positions. Today, he is Chief Information Officer and a member of RSI's Executive Board. He succeeds Dino Balestra, who is retiring, on June 1, 2014. Due to his experience in a wide variety of journalistic fields and his management skills, Canetta ideally meets the requirements for an RSI director, according to the statement. He was appointed at the request of the regional board of the SRG Cooperative of Italian Switzerland (Comitato Corsi).

The 57-year-old joined RSI (then TSI) television in 1980: First he was a trainee in Zurich, then editor of the program "Telegiornale," then Federal Parliament correspondent in Bern, later producer of "Domenica Sportiva" and "Telegiornale. Since 2003, he has held important management positions at RSI: as Head of Sports, Head of "Telegiornale," Head of Culture and, since July 2012, Head of Information. Canetta was born on December 25, 1956, he is married and has two grown-up children. On June 1, 2014, he will replace Dino Balestra as Director and will then also be a member of the SRG Executive Board.
