Diego Yanez becomes Maz director

Diego Yanez, Editor-in-Chief TV and member of the Executive Board, is leaving SRF to become the new Director of the Swiss School of Journalism Maz in Lucerne, effective March 1, 2014.

Diego Yanez worked for SRF and Swiss Television for 24 years. Since its launch in January 2011, he has played a key role in shaping SRF as Editor-in-Chief TV and member of the Executive Board. Under his leadership, tried-and-tested TV information programs were successfully led into the future - including a stronger focus on background, classification and analysis of "Tagesschau" and "10vor10," a modernization of "Kassensturz" and a clear orientation of "Rundschau." Diego Yanez also promoted a competent information offering in breaking news, realized new, trimedial large-scale projects in cooperation with the radio editorial team (for example, "Treffpunkt Bundesplatz" in the 2011 election year) and helped build up the convergent online newsroom.

Diego Yanez began his career at Swiss Television in 1989 as editor of the program "Netto"; later he was editor, reporter and producer of "10 vor 10," Middle East correspondent in Jerusalem, Federal House correspondent and deputy editorial director of "Quer" and "10 vor 10. Before the merger with SR DRS, he was head of news and deputy editor-in-chief of SF for four years.

On March 1, 2014, Diego Yanez will become the new director of the Swiss School of Journalism Maz in Lucerne. Diego Yanez: "After 24 years, it's hard for me to say goodbye to SRF. I look back on intense, exciting years; I was a reporter, editor, correspondent, head of news - always right in the thick of things. As Editor-in-Chief, a new, no less fascinating dimension was added. I would like to thank SRF Director Ruedi Matter and my many colleagues for the great trust they have placed in me. Now I see an ideal opportunity to set a new course in my professional life: I am looking forward to the challenge at Maz - the Swiss School of Journalism. I am taking on this new and great task with a lot of joy and passion."

Ruedi Matter, Director SRF: "I extremely regret Diego Yanez's departure and find it hard to imagine a Chief Editor TV without him. As a full-blooded journalist - which he has always remained, even in management - he was able to further develop TV information at SRF in the best sense. But I look forward to us remaining connected through SRF's close proximity to Maz."

SRF will advertise the position of Editor-in-Chief TV internally and externally.
