"We want to develop in the direction of the magazine"

The NZZ am Sonntag realizes a comprehensive relaunch with the issue of September 8. It offers new content, new columns and a new design. The society section now appears in tabloid format.

"In recent years, the daily newspapers have increasingly aligned themselves with the weeklies," Felix E. Müller, editor-in-chief of NZZ am Sonntag, said in a statement. In addition, he said, the Sunday press is also becoming more and more similar. This is one of the reasons why NZZ am Sonntag has been regularly innovating and changing since its launch 11 years ago. "In terms of content and form, we want to develop more in the direction of a magazine," Müller continues.

The NZZ am Sonntag is to become lighter and airier, thanks among other things to a newly developed font used for the first time worldwide, the use of larger images and additional white space. In the future, the individual alliances will stand out more strongly from one another, and individual topics will be given greater weight and additionally expanded. For example, the background and opinion bundle will be extended by two pages, providing additional depth. "New columns by well-known authors also guarantee a greater variety of topics and opinions," says Müller. The new magazine elements are most evident in the society section, which now appears in tabloid format.

"We are convinced that these measures will enable us to consolidate our premium position in the market and also offer advertisers a very attractive platform with our demanding readership with high purchasing power," says Stefan Bai, Head of Advertising Market at NZZ.
