On May 8, 2013, the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists was awarded for the 22nd time at the Axel Springer Building in Berlin. The award is presented to up-and-coming reporters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In front of around 400 invited guests from the media, culture and politics, the four independent juries awarded prizes totaling 54,000 euros to twelve entries in the Internet, television, radio and print categories. The prizes were awarded in the Internet, television, radio and print categories, with conductor Christian Thielemann as guest speaker. Axel Springer made the announcement in a press release on Wednesday.

The winners of the first prizes are Amrai Coen and Bernhard Riedmann (Der Spiegel app) in the Internet category, Michael Strompen and Jo Schück (ZDF) in the Television category and Felicitas Reichold (SWR2) in the Radio category. Karin Prummer (weekend supplement of the Financial Times Deutschland) won first prize in the print/weekly and monthly publications category, and Daniel Etter (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) won first prize in the print/supra-regional and national contributions category. Oliver Hollenstein (Bavarian regional section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung) was the winner in the Print/Local and Regional category.

The Axel Springer Prize for young journalists was founded in 1991 by Axel Springer and the heirs of the company founder.
