Apple renews its notebooks

Apple sends a thinner and more powerful notebook computer into the race against competitors from the Windows camp. The new top model of the Macbook Pro also gets a much improved screen resolution.

The device is about a quarter thinner than the previous model. The display of the new Macbook Pro has 5.1 million pixels and a resolution of 2880 by 1800 pixels, as marketing chief Phil Schiller explained in San Francisco on Monday. As with the iPhone, Apple speaks of a "Retina" display, in which the human eye cannot recognize any pixels. With the new resolution, however, applications must also be adapted. Software such as Adobe Photoshop has already been updated accordingly, he said. (sda)
