Observer Prix Courage: Pascale Bruderer becomes jury president

Pacale Bruderer Wyss, an SP member of the Council of States from the canton of Aargau, will take over from Franz Hohler as jury president in preparation for the 2012 Observer Prix Courage awards ceremony on September 6 in Zurich.

Author and former cabaret artist Franz Hohler is stepping down after seven years at the helm of the Prix Courage jury. Pascale Bruderer Wyss is an "absolutely ideal choice" for this position, says Andres Büchi, editor-in-chief of the Beobachter. "As a politician, but also as a person, she has the gift of conveying values that are important for Switzerland in a convincing and credible way."

This year's Prix Courage will be awarded on Thursday, September 6 in Zurich. The five-member jury includes four former winners of the Prize for Civil Courage. The main prize is endowed with 25'000 Swiss francs and is awarded directly by the independent jury. The readers of the Beobachter also decide on the audience prize, which is worth 10'000 Swiss francs.
