Zürichsee Medien takes over Capital FM

Zürichsee Medien takes over the Bernese capital city radio station Capital FM from the media company Espace Media. Together with Radio Zürisee, this creates a strong network of stations in the Bern, Winterthur and Zurich regions under the umbrella of Zürichsee Medien.

The anchoring of Capital FM in the Bern region is to be maintained, as Tamedia writes in a statement on Monday. At the same time, the Bernese station is to benefit from an intensive exchange with Radio Zürisee in the areas of programming, technology and sales. "From an editorial point of view, we attach great importance to Capital FM offering independent programs for the region," Theodor Gut, chairman of the board of directors of Zürichsee Medien, told SDA. Zürichsee Medien also owns the local station Radio Zürisee, based in Rapperswil SG. However, it is conceivable that the two stations could share a correspondent for reporting from the Federal Parliament, for example, Gut added. There are also plans to create synergies in technology, for example by using the same technical systems. Further details are being worked out, according to Gut. "I only found out on Sunday that we had been awarded the contract," he said.

Zürichsee Medien AG is taking over all employees of Capital FM as well as the employees of the advertising market AV Medien, who previously worked mainly for the radio station. A total of 28 employees (22.4 full-time positions) will be transferred to Zürichsee Medien, which, in addition to Radio Zürisee, also includes the magazine marketer Zürichsee Werbe AG.The parent company of Espace Media, Tamedia, is thus also parting with its radio station in Bern following the sale of Tele Bärn and Tele Züri to AZ Medien at the end of August. The company had decided in April of this year, as part of the merger with Edipresse Suisse, to examine a sale of its radio and TV stations as well as its specialist media.

The transfer of Capital FM's license must be approved by the Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications in accordance with the Radio and TV Act. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the sale, which is subject to this approval by the supervisory authority.
