Swiss Pledge initiative expanded

The Swiss Pledge initiative launched by leading food and beverage groups in Switzerland to establish and monitor responsible advertising practices now includes Swiss print media in addition to television commercials in its monitoring.

As of January 1, 2012, children's magazines will be checked for possible advertising placements, according to a statement. In addition to analyzing TV commercials, the external monitoring now also includes children's magazines. Eleven Swiss food manufacturers voluntarily refrain from food advertising aimed at children under 12 if the products do not meet defined nutritional profiles. These were determined on the basis of recognized
Nutrition recommendations and national and international nutrition guidelines created.

Currently, the following companies are actively participating in the program: Coca-Cola, Danone, Intersnack, Kellogg, Kraft Foods, Mars, Nestlé, Pepsi Co, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Zweifel Pomy-Chips. The voluntary initiative is open to additional market participants who commit to meeting the minimum criteria.
