SRG secures sports rights portfolio

SRG television stations now have the rights to broadcast one top match per round of the Soccer Super League live, as well as live broadcasts during the final phase of qualifying and all rounds of the ice hockey championship playoffs.

SRG will offer its audience an unprecedented sports offering in the coming years, it said in a statement on Wednesday. In recent weeks, it has successfully concluded negotiations with various broadcasters and rights holders, laying the foundation for sports programming on its radio and television stations and multimedia platforms that is tailored to the interests and needs of its audience. For example, SRG had reached an agreement with CT Cinetrade on the media exploitation of the national soccer championship on free TV. With regard to coverage of the national ice hockey championship, including the playoffs, SRG and the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) had defined the parameters of their partnership. SRG has also reached an agreement with the rights holders regarding coverage of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi and 2016 in Rio, the Ice Hockey World Championships (until 2017) and the world's most important tennis tournaments. Urs Leutert, Head of Business Unit Sport SRG SSR/SRF Sport: "SRG has secured an attractive and diverse rights portfolio thanks to long-standing cooperation with its rights partners and thanks to consistent negotiation management in a difficult environment with increasing legalization and commercialization of sports. We are delighted that in the coming years we will be able to offer a unique sports program tailored to the interests and needs of our Swiss audience, with top national and international events."

All parties have agreed not to disclose the financial compensation and contractual details.
