Albert Polo Stäheli is "Media Manager of the Year

In the run-up to the Swiss Publishers' Congress in Flims, the industry magazine Schweizer Journalist honors NZZ CEO Albert Polo Stäheli as "Media Manager of the Year.

Albert Polo Stäheli has managed to turn a decentralized company into a powerful unit in a very short time. By consistently exploiting synergies and cooperative ventures, he has put the group on a solid economic footing, thereby also giving journalism a piece of the future in-house, said Journalist Editor-in-Chief Markus Wiegand, explaining the decision.

The 61-year-old Stäheli became a member of the Executive Board of Berner Zeitung AG in 1981. In 1987, he took over the management of the media division of Berner Tagblatt Mediengruppe BTM. In 1993, he became CEO of Espace Media Groupe and, after the merger with Tamedia in 2008, a member of Tamedia's Executive Board. In September 2008, Stäheli moved to the NZZ Group as CEO.

Last year, Valérie Boagno (Le Temps) was honored. The other honorees: 2009 Pietro Supino and Martin Kall (Tamedia), 2008 Ralph Büchi (Springer), 2007 Théo Bouchat (Edipresse), 2006 Peter Wanner (AZ Medien).

The jury included Josefa Haas (Head of Media Institute Swiss Press), Maili Wolf (Dr. Maili Wolf Consulting, Media and Communication), Karl Vögeli (Vögeli Medienconsulting), Marco de Stoppani (former publishing director of NZZ), Valérie Boagno (as Media Manager of the Year 2010) and Markus Wiegand (Swiss journalist).
