View should become more political
Blick must become more political again, says publisher Michael Ringier in an interview with the Sonntag newspaper. He also says Ringier was interested in the Basler Zeitung.
People are interested in what's going on in politics and business, Ringier says. That's where Blick needs to step up, he said, because journalistic capacity is sometimes too limited in this regard. Now, he said, it was time to invest in journalism again. Marc Walder is working with the editors-in-chief and the department heads on an appropriate program, he said. "If we have - I'll now give a fictitious figure - five additional heavyweights at Blick, then that will have an impact," Ringier said. Blick has gotten better, he said, but he also sees the gaps. That also has to do with the number of people, he said.
In addition, he says in the interview that they had been in intensive talks with the Basler Zeitung. But they realized relatively quickly that they could only go along up to a certain price, while other interested parties offered much higher sums due to synergies or political intentions.
