Basel Tourism to receive more subsidies due to Corona crisis

The government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt wants to support Basel tourism with additional operating contributions due to the Corona crisis. For the years 2020 and 2021, 1.4 million Swiss francs will be proposed to the Grand Council for this purpose.

According to a statement on Tuesday, the government wants to ensure that Basel Tourism can fulfil the performance mandate of the canton and provide the associated services for guests. It is also intended to prevent Basel Tourism from having to restructure or fall into debt.

In addition, the government is making CHF 300,000 available to Basel Tourism for a marketing campaign. This is intended to stimulate demand, according to the communiqué.

As the central organisation for tourism promotion, Basel Tourism was hit hard by the Corona crisis. Protective measures and the economic slump led to a fall of almost 54 per cent in overnight stays in Basel hotels alone from the beginning of January to the end of May. (SDA)
