The proposed revision of the Articles of Association with a change of name has two main objectives, explained Chairman of the Board of Directors Urs Schneider to the shareholders at the AGM in Altstätten last Thursday: "To create a consistent holding structure. A name that expresses the predominantly national orientation of the overall group." Schneider's arguments were comprehensible to those present without discussion. The motion was clearly approved. As a result, Rheintal Medien AG will become galledia group ag as of January 1, 2019. The name change will create a clear holding structure. Operational activities will in future only take place at the first organizational level in defined areas of competence. Currently, Rheintal Medien AG and its subsidiaries generate three quarters of their sales of around CHF 48 million outside the main region of Rheintal.

Group does not quite reach previous year's result

The local newspaper publisher presented an excellent result with the "Rheintaler" and the "Rhein-talische Volkszeitung" in 2017. The two daily newspapers, which are well anchored and established in the region, presented a better result than in the previous year and thus continue to occupy a leading position in the print media market in Switzerland.Despite the good result of the daily newspapers, the Rheintal Medien AG Group did not quite achieve the excellent result of the previous year in 2017. At CHF 5.4 million, EBITDA fell 17.5 % short of the previous year, although net income was down by only 2.3 %. The result was significantly impacted by the subsidiary Galledia AG, which also hardly lost any sales (-2.4 %), but lost value added due to structural change and price pressure. But even here, EBITDA was still in a satisfactory range, Schneider made clear. Rheintal Medien AG acquired the production building of Galledia AG in Flawil in 2017. According to Chairman Schneider, this considerable investment can also be understood as a commitment to print.
