The CMO of Geberit has turned a quiet little toilet into a prominent brand. At first glance, pipes, tiles, water jets and toilet bowls have little sex appeal - but since Martin Baumüller has been in charge of marketing, the products and Campaigns quite appealing. The brand entrusted to him has little relevance for average consumers - after all, you don't build a toilet every day. But through clever, emotional and very creative marketing, the brand gets a lot of attention in everyday life.
Baumüller has been involved in the success of this brand for quite some time; he joined the Geberit Group in January 2011. Initially, he managed various internal projects as Head Strategic Planning. From February 2012 to the end of August 2016, he was Head Geberit AquaClean, responsible for the management and further development of the Geberit Group's entire shower toilet business. Since September 2016, he has headed the Group Division Marketing & Brands as CMO and member of the Group Executive Board.
He completed his studies at the University of St. Gallen and at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, graduating with a Master's degree in International Management and an MBA. In 2005, he received his PhD from the University of Bern with a dissertation on "Managing Cultural Diversity". From 2001 to 2003 he started his career as a freelance consultant for strategy and market expansion projects. From 2005 to 2010, he worked for McKinsey & Company in Zurich. He then moved to Geberit.
Geberit's success throughout Europe lies in a strong, local presence in most European countries. This enables Geberit to offer unique added value both in the field of sanitary technology and in the area of bathroom ceramics. After all, direct contact with customers is a key success factor for Geberit. Customer centricity, innovative strength, sustainability, meaningfulness and diversity are lived out in exemplary fashion by Geberit's CMO, which is why the jury clearly chose Martin Baumüller as CMO of the Year 2023.
