Great Garbo wins Swiss Film Award for Best Film Score
The Zurich composer team Diego, Nora and Lionel Baldenweg, known in the advertising industry as Great Garbo, wins the Swiss Film Prize for the film music for "The Little Witch".
The Swiss Film Academy has awarded the Baldenwegs with the Swiss Film Prize (best film music). The elaborate film score for the hit movie "The Little Witch" consists of 72 musical compositions built on three main elements - an intimate, playful voice meets whimsical everyday objects such as brooms, shutters, pan lids, watering cans and is complemented by a large symphonic orchestra. The music seems playful, at the same time possesses a classical grandeur and supports the storytelling on every level. The film adaptation of Otfried Preussler's world bestseller started at number one in the German cinema charts and within weeks has already thrilled over 1.5 million viewers in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The film has now been nominated for the German Film Award.
Targeted music for advertising and feature film industry
After over 300 international campaigns for brands such as Sony, LG, Nivea or the third most viewed online campaign of all time for Dove (2014), Great Garbo has alone this year and last year, in addition to various advertising campaigns, implemented compositions in very different films. The poetic short film "La Femme et le TGV" starring Jane Birkin was nominated by the Academy for a coveted Oscar in 2017. For this film score, the Baldenwegs became one of the four finalists for the coveted Music+Sound Award shortly thereafter.
"Die Letzte Pointe", by veteran director Rolf Lyssy ("Die Schweizermacher") delighted a large mainly older audience and advanced to become the most successful Swiss arthouse film of last year.
Currently, the multi-award winning composers are working on the music for the long-awaited and elaborately staged cinema adaptation of "Zwingli" (The Reformer), which will be released in 2019 for the Reformation anniversary. They are also working on various new advertising campaigns which will be launched soon.
