The new poster from Locarno Film Festival

For the third time, the design of the annually changing poster for the Locarno Film Festival was put out to tender. The jury of the international competition has now chosen the winning poster.

Among the more than 1,000 projects submitted, British duo Sarah and Ciaren Diante won unanimously. On the work, the festival's symbol, the leopard, merges with a female figure and the iconic yellow and black palette with bold blue tones for the first time.

In total, more than 1,000 proposals were submitted from over 80 countries. The winning poster by British duo Sarah and Ciaren Dante (both born in 1977) is sensual, mysterious and sophisticated. Reminiscent of traditional English painting, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and his ethereal female figures, or the illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley, it references 20th century optical art. The mysterious work with the leopard and the female figure leaves room for interpretation and questions entrenched values. The new subject will not only be seen on the event posters, but will also shape the festival's printed and digital promotional and information material.

The jury includes, in addition to the Festival's Presidency and Management, a group of renowned external consultants from the communication, art and film sectors: Emanuele Amighetti (Art Director of Esquire Magazine Italy), Charlotte Colbert (director and multimedia artist and Locarno74 Swatch First Feature Award winner with She Will), Walter Fasano (director and editor of various films by Luca Guadagnino and Dario Argento), Carlo Giordanetti (Product and Design Committee and CEO of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel), Patrick Gyger (Director of Platforme 10), Michele Jannuzzi (Director of Jannuzzi Smith and Brand Consultant of the Festival) and Denise Tonella (Director of the Swiss National Museum).
