The nominees for the 2024 Swiss Film Awards have been announced

The nominees for the Swiss Film Awards 2024 were announced on Tuesday evening as part of the Solothurn Film Festival. Only films from French-speaking Switzerland have been nominated in the feature film category. The nominees for best documentary film, on the other hand, all come from German-speaking Switzerland.

The film BISONS by director Pierre Monnard (WILDER, NEUMATT, PLATZSPITZBABY) is in the running for the Swiss Film Award with six nominations, followed by BLACKBIRD, BLACKBIRD, BLACKBERRY by Elene Naveriani and LA VOIE ROYALE by Frédéric Mermoud with four nominations each. The three well-known actresses Ursina Lardi, Julia Jentsch and Ella Rumpf have been nominated for Best Actress.

The Swiss Film Awards ceremony will take place on March 22 at Halle 622 in Zurich. The award ceremony for local filmmaking is organized by the Federal Office of Culture FOC with its partners SRG SSR and the Association Quartz Genève Zurich and in collaboration with Swiss Films, the Swiss Film Academy and the Solothurn Film Festival.

A total of 115 films in 13 categories are eligible for the 2024 Swiss Film Awards. The films were viewed and judged by around 500 members of the Swiss Film Academy.

The Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) selects a five-member commission from the members of the Swiss Film Academy. It makes its nominations based on the recommendations of the Academy's 500 or so members. The nomination committee is chaired by Annina Hasler, Head of the FOC Film Culture Service.

During the week of the awards ceremony from March 18 to 24, the Nominees' Week at the Cinémas du Grütli in Geneva and the Filmpodium Zurich will be dedicated to the nominated films.
