Dennis Lück advocates more creativity at school

At Berner Bildungstag 2019, Dennis Lück, CCO of Jung von Matt/Limmat and Advertiser of the Year 2017, spoke to around 6,000 teachers about the topic of common sense and also about the importance of creativity for the classroom of the future. Lück advises to include communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking as school subjects in the timetable.

Without creativity, there is no innovation - because creativity is the fuel of the communications industry and is equally important for agencies and clients. The education system and schools are a central hub for the future creative generation and its talents, which is why Dennis Lück has been involved in this area for several years. He does this as part of his column in the New Zurich Newspaper, but also through workshops with schools, in discussions with teachers, and as an advisor to several startups in the field of education. During his presentation at the Berner Bildungstag 2019, he talked about how creative potential can become part of the school curriculum in the future.

"Super subjects" and learning coaching

According to Lück, the first step is to have the vision of creating creative heroes of the future in order to maintain the impact of this creative potential. To this end, six new subjects and a new coaching approach are to be implemented. New skills such as "multiple solutions", "team spirit" and "digital ethics" will be taught in the "super subjects" of creativity, inspiration, connections, logic, collaboration and communication, as well as all the classic school subjects such as biology, history and mathematics. The interaction of the subjects into superordinate themes should make it possible to do justice to the complex reality of the present in school as well. For example, the school subject "Interrelationships," in which biology and history, among other things, are taught, focuses on learning about and understanding precisely these interrelationships in nature and history. Or one learns how technology and humans interact or how culture and religion influence each other. You learn how things really are in the world: everything is connected.

The subjects are also to be accompanied by learning coaching for the students, whereby potentials are to be identified, personalities developed and perspectives worked out together. The coach - either the teacher or a person specially appointed for this purpose - takes care of individual further development, something that has so far been neglected in education.

The Manifesto

At the end of the presentation, Lück praises the teachers and emphasizes the importance of their commitment for the future. Through their heart and soul, pride and joy in their profession, they should contribute to the realization of creative potential and the successful and constructive implementation of future teaching.
